Director of College Advising, New York
Kate Manire considers college consulting a perfect synthesis of her passions: mentorship and writing. She has been working in the field of college consulting since 2012 and has helped hundreds of students get into their dream schools, including Cornell, Swarthmore, NYU, Vanderbilt, Northwestern, Johns Hopkins, and many more. Kate was born in Rye, New York and attended Rye High School, where she received a National Merit Commendation and other academic honors, took 8 AP courses and explored her love for writing as a contributor to the local newspaper, The Rye Record. She studied Fine Arts and English at Vanderbilt University, and after graduating Dean’s List in 2012, she moved to China to work as a college admissions consultant. It was there that she discovered her passion for mentoring bright young students and helping them write about their own passions, including robotics, engineering, physics, math, theater, art, and social justice. After returning to America in 2014, she enrolled in the MFA Painting program at New York Academy of Art, which she completed in 2017. Since then she has worked as a painter in Brooklyn while tutoring privately in SAT, ACT, ELA and Math courses as well as continuing her work as a college consultant. More recently, she has found her specialty as a portfolio advisor for art, architecture, and urban planning students and helped aspiring artists learn how to write about their work. Her students have gotten into the Cornell School of Art, Architecture and Planning, NYU, Renssaeler Polytechnic School of Architecture, Parsons School of Design, and other top ranked Art and Design programs, often with merit scholarships of up to $50,000 annually. At A-List, Kate is excited to continue working with aspiring artists of any capacity while continuing to learn more about her students’ wide range of passions across all disciplines and fields.
