Originally from Rochester, New York, Alyssa Block graduated from high school as a National Merit Scholarship finalist and the Valedictorian of her class. She attended NYU’s highly competitive Tisch School of the Arts, where she graduated cum laude with a BFA in Drama and a minor in English. What began as a penchant for editing her friends’ English papers and making up ridiculous songs and mnemonic devices to help classmates study for tests has blossomed into a passion for sharing her time and knowledge with others to help them achieve their own success. In addition to teaching test prep, Alyssa has served as a classroom aid in London, a playwrighting instructor in Nebraska, and an improvisational comedy teacher at the Children’s Village Sanctuary (a transitional home for homeless and runaway teens) in Westchester. She currently lives in Harlem and is pursuing a career in the arts.
“Alyssa was fantastic. Aside from following the materials in the book of knowledge, she always made sure to use a plan that worked best for me. Everything was tailored exactly to how I learn. She allowed for my input in a lot of the workload which helped me manage my time better so I could put full effort into my work, but at the same time, she pushed me to work harder each week, helping me improve by 470 SAT points, 210 of which were in critical reading, alone. She made sure that I always knew exactly what was happening at all times. Even if I thought I knew a math or grammar topic, Alyssa made sure we would go over it, just to be safe. Good thing she did because we picked up on a decent number of topics I didn’t know as well as I thought I did. I know that she really cares about how well I do, not only on standardized tests, because she also helped me write my personal statement for the Common Application, as well as a couple of my supplemental essays. I’ve already recommended A-List and Alyssa for a friend a year younger, and I will definitely do so again in the future.”

I think A-List is a great organization. My tutor was positive and tailored the material to my learning style. She made learning each subject fun and presented new topics in an engaging fashion. Thank you so much to A-List for helping me achieve my personal best!
A-List gave me more than just practice tests and test-taking tips, though these were invaluable. My tutor connected with me on a personal level and helped me understand that I was capable of getting the score I wanted. Suddenly, I viewed my test-taking experience as a challenge, not a burden. I walked into my ACT with the confidence that I knew exactly how to conquer every aspect of the test.”
Mother of Phoebe C.
Both my children had an amazing experience with A-List! Steadily, she worked hard to improve her test scores. Taking the practice tests allowed her to gain confidence and learn to manage her time during the tests. Then a college advisor helped her write her college essays. She was an amazing guide who helped Phoebe focus and streamline her supplements and essays. Now she will be attending her dream college, Rice University, School of Architecture!
