Although the SAT is historically more popular in the Middle East, US universities view the two tests identically, and differences in timing and structure make the ACT a better option for some students. About the Test:

The ACT is a US university admissions examination that consists of subject tests in English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science plus an optional essay.

  • The English section is 45 minutes long and has 75 multiple choice grammar and writing convention questions.
  • The Mathematics section is 60 minutes long and has 60 multiple choice Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry questions.
  • The Reading section is 35 minutes long and has 40 multiple choice reading comprehension questions.
  • The Science section is 35 minutes long and has 40 multiple choice data interpretation questions.
  • The Writing Section is a 30 minute optional essay which generates an independent score (not factored into the composite score).

Each subject test is scored on a 36-point scale. The final, composite ACT score is the average of the four subject scores rounded to the nearest whole number.
